Calmer Bedtime and Transition Scripts

Support for screens, leaving the playground, bedtime, and daily routines.

Quick script:

“One more minute, then I will help your body move to the next thing.”

Transitions are hard

Many children struggle when the brain has to leave something enjoyable and move toward something less preferred. Predictability helps.

Use a preview

  • “Two more minutes, then shoes.”
  • “First pajamas, then one book.”
  • “When the timer rings, I will help you turn it off.”

Hold the limit

If your child protests, keep the words warm and repetitive: “You wish you had more time. It is time to go.”

Repair the routine

After a rough transition, name the next plan: “Tomorrow I will give you a reminder before we leave.”
